This is usually an issue with the Firmware, so I would first like you to do this please.
Remove the charger from the Kindle and hold the power button to off for 35 seconds.
Release, then connect the charger and try to turn on the Kindle and view the books
Let me know the results please
Which model Kindle do you have?
From Home, tap the Menu icon.
Tap Settings, and then tap Wi-Fi Networks.
Then press on your wifi network and press connect
It should then ask you for your wifi password, enter it and once connected, tell me if your books then appear please
