Customer Question

I too seem to be in the same loop of redownloading the same update. I cannot use the Kobo application to eject my reader and several of the new books I have added to my library are not completely loaded. What needs to be done on my end to correct this issue?

Hi, Here is theKobo information to perform a basic reset:

  1. If possible, turn your eReader off.
  2. Turn it over and locate the small hole on the back.
  3. Unfold a paperclip and slide an end into the hole.
  4. Press gently until you feel a click.
  5. Your eReader should restart.

~

If the basic reset doesn't help, you can consider a factory reset. Be aware that a factory reset will return the device back to its original condition.

Performing a factory reset on a Kobo eReader Touch

If you have trouble with your eReader, and a basic reset did not work, you can perform a factory reset. This restores it to its original settings.

Warning! A factory reset deletes all content on your eReader. This means that it:

  • Deletes any books you've added to your eReader
  • Deletes your bookmarks and annotations
  • Deletes your account information
  • Resets all your settings (for example, Reading Life settings, text settings, and more)
  • Returns the eReader to its original firmware setting

To perform the factory reset:

  1. If possible, back up any books or documents that you added to your eReader using Adobe Digital Editions, or that you manually added using your computer. You do not need to back up any books you bought from the Kobo Store.
  2. On your eReader's Home page, tap Home.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Tap Device Information.
  5. Tap Factory Reset.
  6. Tap Reset Now.

To use your eReader after a factory reset you must set it up again using the free Kobo Desktop software.

~

You can also re-install the latest desktop app linked below:

~

To set up your eReader:

  1. Download, install, and launch Kobo Desktop.
  2. Connect your eReader to your computer using the provided USB cable.
  3. Kobo Desktop will automatically start the setup wizard to configure your eReader.
  4. Click Get Started.
  5. Follow the prompts to set up your eReader.

To sync your eReader Touch using Kobo Desktop:

  1. Using the included USB cable, connect your eReader to your computer.
  2. On the eReader tap Connect.
  3. On your computer:
    1. Start Kobo Desktop.
    2. Sign in to your Kobo account.
    3. Click Sync.
    4. Kobo Desktop will download any new books you've bought from the Kobo Store, and update your eReader library.

Well let me know how it goes?

Customer replied295 days and 7 hours ago.

Would the best way to fix this issue be to delete and reinstall the Desktop application? I'm caught in a loop to download (on my computer) the latest desktop update. Once it is installed I go to the Kobo desktop and the update popup reappears and the only way to get out of it is to either upload or cancel. This has been going on for a few days. I have turned my computer off several times as I know that sometimes the whole system needs to reboot for the new application or update to be completely installed. This is getting annoying.

Hi Michele, Yes if issue is on the desktop software, please delete it and will reinstall the latest verison instead;

`

On a Windows computer:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, click Control Panel
  2. Click Add/Remove Programs or Uninstall a program (depending on your version of Windows)
  3. Click Kobo from the list of installed applications.
  4. Click Uninstall/Change
  5. Click Uninstall
  6. Click Close

`

May then download and re-install the http://www.kobobooks.com/desktop

Turns out I had to delete the program twice from my computer and also reset the ereader. The first delete and reinstall I still got caught in the update loop I then reset the ereader and tried again. then I had to again delete the program from my desktop but this time I didn't get caught in the update loop. Why is this happening and is Kobo aware of this happening?

Seem to be an issue with the update and the way it is effecting everyone, I am sure Kobo is now aware of the issue and will be addressed with yet another update. You may report your issue as well here - > help@kobobooks.com

Well glad your persistence paid off and happy reading aye :)
