It sounds like the firmware may be frozen try this and let me know the results hold the power switch for at least 60 seconds. Try this at least 3 times and then let me know what happens. The firmware can sometimes get frozen the same way that a computer will occasionally. nope green lite stays on for about 5 sec and then nothing

Did you make sure to try it at least 3 times? Can you connect it to a different port on the computer and wait 10 minutes then while it is connected try this again?

yes i will have to change areas i am on my Ipad hang on

ok plugged in to the cpu, now wait 10 and try the reboot 3 times?

Yes please, make sure the light stays on during the 10 minutes and that it is still connected to the computer when you try 3 times.

Ok hold the cable while pushing in on the end that connects to the kindle. Does it stay on when you do that? How old is this kindle?

yes then red i believe i got it for my husband just before he passed away in nov of last year

Ok if it turns from green to red it means the port on the Kindle is loose and this normally requires it to be serviced as it gets resoldered onto the board. Since it is less than a year old it should be covered by the warranty.
