I purchased a Kindle Fire in December 2011 and it is having a problem holding a battery charge. It was flaky at first but I thought it was operator error. Now the battery won't charge and I can only use it plugged in. What do I do now?
Already Tried: I tried a different charger. I also tried charging with unit powered off. The unit will only turn on with charger plugged in. Problem appears to be intermittant, since it does charge occasionally.
Hello and thank you for using JustAnswer.I believe your firmware may need resetting. Try rebooting your Kindle by pressing and holding the power button for 20 seconds. Wait one minute and try turning it on and using it. If the Kindle still malfunctions, please let me know.
Still have to plug unit in to turn power on, will not come up by pushing button. Also the battery is showing a ? now instead of a level of charge.

Let's try to reset the charging firmware. Plug it in for 15 minutes. After that and while still plugged in, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Wait one minute, press the power button, wait one minute, and try to slide the orange arrow.
Ok, I did the charging firmware reset and I am still getting the ? indication on the battery, instead of a charge level.
