Customer Question

Can Lipozene cause a positive drug test for amphetamines? I take celexa, zyrtec, trazadone(q hs prn) and was taking lipozene(sold at walmart) as diet aid. I do not take amphetamines! Please explain what could have happened.

Hello,
I do not see any evidence that lipozene will cause a false positive test for amphetamine, however, there is MUCH evidence that TRAZODONE can do this.
SEE HERE FOR A SCIENTIFIC REFERENCE. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21740694
AND A LESS SCIENTIFIC LINK THAT ALSO CONFIRMS THIS (SEE UNDER 'ANTIDEPRESSANTS' IN LAST SENTENCE)

Please let me know if you have any further questions for me, but it does appear likely that you have a 'false positive' test for amphetamine here.

Thank you for your question:
Unfortunately, the other expert answer did not include some important information about the different types of drug tests.
The various medications that can cause false positive drug tests - only influence the screening immunoassay (EMIT) type tests and NOT GC/MS confirmed test.
The immunoassay technology is used in home tests, dipsticks or other types of "instant" tests. Most drug tests done for employment or legal purposes are done with GC/MS confirmation. This technology is NOT subject to this type of interference.
If the test was not confirmed with GC/MS it could be considered a possible false positive, which should be then sent to a laboratory for confirmation testing.
