I am 60 yrs of age 6'4' 220 lbs. (100 kg) don't get very much exercise but am in good health. The last cigarette I smoked was at university in 1970. I started to smoke marijuana 6 months ago to reduce my alcohol consumption. I smoke the equivalent of one joint almost every evening. My alcohol consumption has decreased by over 75% (an occasional glass of wine). I have had a "non-smoker" long term disability insurance policy in place for over 23 yrs. We lost our 25 year old son to depression induced suicide two years ago and I am considering filing an LTD claim because I am unable to work. How long do I need to be THC clean before I won't fail a blood or urine test ?????I thank you in advance for your thoughts.J.
Thank you for your question:With daily use, the typical detection period with urine tests is 10-15 days. With heavier use, the detection period can extend to 30 days or even longer (usually in very heavy use).I am not an attorney, but I don't believe that an insurance company could deny a disability claim based on your current smoking of marijuana, when the policy has been in place for 25 years. This is something that you would need to ask an attorney about this to be certain. To be safe, you would want to be off the marijuana for at least 2 weeks, the longer the better.
