Customer Question

Hello Crsar,
Love your show. I am very familiar with k9 psychology and am very concerned about the current story in the new about the little boy running into the neighbors garage to hug a dog. The media is playing this as a feel good story to death. No mention or warning to parents not to let your child interact with a dog in until temperament and proper intro introduction has been made. I think you will agree that his approach to the dog is very dangerous especially. When children see this and try it there is going to be a major tragedy waiting to happen.

Hi JaCustomer,

My name is ***** ***** I’ve been involved professionally with dogs in the health and behavioral fields for over 18 years. It will be my pleasure to work with you today. Crsar is not a part of this site. Just answer is a site where experts whose qualifications have been verified answer specific questions from customers.

Often photos of kids hugging dogs, sitting on dogs and playing with their food are displayed in various public forums like facebooks, news stories, online social media outlets and there really isn't anything anyone can do to stop this. Dog behaviorist like myself and others that I know do comment on such stories where possible about the dangers of the behavior being shown and attempt to educate potential dog buyers and those do owners with children on how a child should act around not only strange dogs but their own dog as well.

There are many sites developed specifically for this purpose such as the ones below.

You can try and make a difference by writing and letting people know that children should always be supervised when with a dog. Let them know that while this specific dog was fine with the boy interacting with him, it might have gone very different.
