New puppies, 5 weeks old and thriving, but had to take them

Customer Question

New puppies, 5 weeks old and thriving, but had to take them out of town with me. Let them go in the yard and now two started to get dry heaves with just the tiniest amount of foamy sputem.
JA: I'll do all I can to help. What is the matter with the dog?
Customer: I am afraid they might have gotten parvo.
JA: Where does the dog seem to hurt?
Customer: Stomach upset
JA: OK. Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about the dog?
Customer: They are still nursing. Just barely started trying to nibble at food.

I am sorry you are worried about your puppies. How many are there?

Parvo would be a concern for me, too, although at 5 weeks they should still have immunity from their mother. Can you take one to be tested? Or you could take a stool sample of one to a veterinarian for testing for parvo.

Keep an eye on them to be sure they are all nursing well. Maybe they just have some travel sickness, and will get over it soon. If more of the puppies start to vomit, or if they stop nursing, I would get a test done so you know if it is parvo or not.
