Ask a Dog Vet and Get Answers to Your Dog Veterinary Questions
Hello! My name is ***** ***** it will be my pleasure to help you with your dog today.
How long has he been on the antibiotics?
What foods have you tried with him?
When was the last time he ate?
Is he drinking water?
Okay. Great. Thanks for the additional information. I really appreciate it.
It's actually pretty common for dogs to not want to eat while on antibiotics. Just like in some humans, those medications can make some dogs nauseated.
Something you could try would be to pick up a can of wet dog food (my dog loves the beneful meals) and warm it up in the microwave. Warming it will open up the scent and make them want to eat more.
You could also try feeding him first thing in the morning before you give him the antibiotics. Sometimes if you feed them before they get the medication they'll be more willing to eat.
If none of these tricks work, then you may want to give your vet a call and ask them about giving him an injectable antibiotic, rather than one he has to swallow, so that it's less likely to upset hsi stomach.
I hope this helps.
