Ask a Dog Vet and Get Answers to Your Dog Veterinary Questions
Hello. My name is***** am happy to help you with your question. Give me just a moment to respond and type.
So to treat a bacterial infection you will need antibiotics. Do you have access to antibiotics?
So if you do not have antibiotics on hand the best thing you can do is to keep her hydrated. That will help flush out the bladder. Offer her low sodium broth mixed with water and put warm water or broth in her food.
Signs she needs to see the ER vet are:
Blood clots larger than a quarter in her urine
Pale or abnormal gum color
Vomiting more than 3 times
The only over the counter pain medication you can give dogs is aspirin. But if she is having bleeding in the urinary tract then aspirin is a bad idea because it can increase bleeding.
But unless she is having more symptoms than you mentioned already she can wait until the morning to see a vet and get some antibiotics.
Does that make sense?
