My 7.5 yrs old bulldog had black runny stool. She was taken

Customer Question

My 7.5 yrs old bulldog had black runny stool. She was taken to the vet on day four of dealing with the condition the did blood work. No parasite or anything in stool. Treatment was antibiotics steroids and a chewable liver pill as well as two multivitamins. Pills are finished but her stomach is swollen and firm. I added pumpkin and Greek yogurt to her diet and her stool formed up and she will eat food again. She does not eat on her own however and needs to be tempted. Any suggestions?!?

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you today. I do apologize that your question was not answered before. Different experts come online at various times; I just came online, read about your wee one’s situation, and wanted to help.

Again I do apologize that my colleagues could not aid you sooner, but can you tell me:

Are her stools still black?#

Are her gums pink or pale/white?

Any gagging, retching, belly discomfort or vomiting?

Can you confirm if her vet did any other tests (ie xray, ultrasound)?

Since you noted that she has been on a liver pill, was there signs of liver issues on her bloodwork?
