Customer Question

I have two dogs. They are both scratching and pulling their hair out. It is not fleas. Oreo has been doing this for a number of years (9 yrs old) and Mickey has now started doing the same thing (5 yrs old) What could be causing this. I have started putting samon oil on their dry (Blue) dog food and they were getting Ceasar moist dog food (one pkg a day), but I stopped that. Their dry dog food dish always has food in them, so they eat when hungry during the day. Have any ideas?
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. Using the wrong medication for fleas can be dangerous. You should definitely talk to the veterinarian. What is the dog's name and age?
Customer: I told you in my writeup. Oreo - 9 and Mickey 5

JA: Is there anything else the veterinarian should be aware of about :?
Customer: I had the to their Vet Nov 1for Oreo and Nov 3 for Mickey. They suggested bathing once a week and gave them anti-bios. Their skin is very dry.

So I need to ask you a couple of questions to get a better feel for what might be going on. You have not changed their primary diet in the last few months, except to discontinue the moist Caesar food.

Any new types of treats?

Have you moved in the last few months?

Have you changed cleaning products or laundry detergent in the last few months?

Have you purchased new dog beds recently?

Since Oreo has had this issue for years, what treatments or diagnostics have been done in the past?

Do you use a flea prevention on them?

Was Oreo's skin worse during any particular season?

What antibiotic are they on? Let's start there. Skin issues can be complicated.
