Ask a Dog Vet and Get Answers to Your Dog Veterinary Questions
Hi, I'm Dr. Peter. Welcome to JustAnswer. I'm reviewing your question now, and will post back with your reply ASAP.
Hello, again, my name is***** will do my best to help you today. First I need to ask you a few questions so that I can be well informed and give you the best advice.
1- How long since she ate the d-con?
2- Do you have hydrogen peroxide 3%?
3- How much does she weigh?
I am sorry, we may be in different time zones, how many hours since she ate it?
Thank you for answering my questions. Please give me 5-10 minutes to type your answer.
The peroxide was to try to make her vomit. But, if she ate it 5 hours ago making her vomit now will not help as the poison has already moved out of the stomach, I am sorry. Typically, we need to induce vomiting within 1-2 hours of ingestion. The active ingredient in d-con is an anticoagulant (causes bleeding), the antidote is Vitamin K1. Unfortunately, we are very limited as to what you can do at home at this point. I would recommend you take her to the nearest ER veterinarian so they can start her on Vitamin K1 injectable and give you a prescription to pick up oral vitamin K1 in your local pharmacy. In addition, she will be started on activated charcoal.
My goal is to provide you with excellent service - I hope I've provided the information you were seeking, if you feel you have received anything less, please reply back as I am happy to address follow-up questions. Kindly rate me when you are done.
