Is there something I can give an 8 & 1/2lb Maltese male dog

Customer Question

Is there something I can give an 8 & 1/2lb Maltese male dog to help him have a bowl movement?? He hasn't't been acting like himself for the last 2 days. He hasn't been eating but I did give him some scrambled eggs with lots of olive oil yesterday and he did eat it but it didn't help. And I got him to eat some more scrambled eggs again tonight. He also isn't drinking as much as he usually does.

Hello, my name is***** and I will do my best to help you. I'm reviewing your question now and I will post back to you ASAP.

Yes you can add a teaspoon of canned pumpkin to whatever he will eat.

If he stars to vomit, has a tense abdomen and stops eating he may have a serious problem.

So if he doesn't feel better a day after the pumpkin please take him to your vet .

So sorry, I keep loosing you.

Is he straining to have a bowel movement?

Expert:  Dr Marta Lepes replied 5 months ago.

If he is straining he needs to be checked by your vet. He will feel the abdomen and intestines. Then he would decide to give an enema, take an x-ray or both.

Not being able to defecate can make a dog very toxic.
