Customer Question

I think by 11 year old beagle has injured a disc. He is in a great deal of pain when he moves. He is also an epileptic. What should I do?
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. Seizures always look scary. Let's get you talking to the Veterinarian. What is the beagle's name?
Customer: He is not having a seizure, he has hurt his neck or back. His name is Cash.
JA: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Cash?
Customer: No he is very healthy other than the seizures and he takes phenobarbital for controling those.

Hello, I am Dr. Pulter. I will be helping you with your question today. Give me a minute to reply.

The best thing you can do at this time is to not move Cash or let Cash move. If you have any left over pain medication from previous visits to the vet and are not expired you can use those. DO NOT use aspirin or other human pain medication as it can harm your pet more than help. If you can get him to a veterinarian soon they will likely do a physical exam, xrays to rule out certain spinal issues. They will prescribe treatment based on these tests. Continue Cash's seizure medication as prescribed by your veterinarian. Please reply with any more questions or an update.

Thank you very much for your help. I will keep him very quiet and take him into his veterinarian in the morning.

You are welcome. How is Cash doing today?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I took hi to his veterinarians office this morning. She gave him and injection of fentinyl and put a fentinyl patch on him. She also gave him methocarbamol and rims fly along with carafate suspension. I take him back in three days to reevaluate. She may do an MRI at that time. His heart rate was very low 60 so she gave him low doses of everything.
