Joyce, you can see how the same motion sickness medication we might take affects Max. Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine/Gravol/generics) dosed at 2-4 mg/lb an hour prior to the car ride might be helpful. I like the idea of using the "happy routine". This involves taking Max on a very short trip to a fun place short of a trip he doesn't have time to become carsick. He then anticipates having fun which also acts to avoid nausea. Then you gradually lengthen the trips to fun places reinforcing his anticipating having fun (and not becoming nauseated). Eventually, all car rides represent fun rather than nausea.
