Ask a Dog Vet and Get Answers to Your Dog Health Questions
Hello, my name is***** and I am happy to help. Is it one eye or both? Is it the eyelid itself or the eyeball?
If it is actually his cheek below the eye, there are a few reasons for that.
1. Bug bite- you can give Benadryl 1 mg per 1 pound by mout every 12 hours. Given his age and being outside, this would seem the most likely!
2. Tooth root abscess- the big upper pre-molars can get infected (pretty uncommon in a 1 year old dog, though)
If it does not resolve this weekend with Benadryl or continues to worsen, then I'd recommend a visit with a local veterinarian.
