Customer Question

We have three sago palms in our back yard and we have to 5 month old puppies. They have shown no interest in the palms but we were warned by our trainer the sagos can be fatal to our dogs. What is actually fatal to the dog the seeds or the leaves or both.

Your trainer is correct the Sago palm can be very dangerous. The plant causes significant liver damage that can end up being fatal. All parts of the sago palm are toxic to a dog but the roots and seeds are the most toxic meaning it will take the least amount to cause a significant liver problem. I hope this helps, if not please feel free to ask more questions, if it did help, please leave a rating. Dr. Dan
