Customer Question

I went away on vacation with my kids and left my Mom with my husky. She is very high energy, and Mom is close to 60. She was petting her but because of her flustration over an influx of fleas while I've been gone she bit her, but she didn't bleed she continued to be aggressive. Since my Mom had nothing to treat the fleas with, she decided to try a Cybalta 60 mg to calm her down. What will this do to her?

Cymbalta (duloxetine) is one of the antidepressants that can cause a variety of symptoms in dogs. It's reasonable safe, however, in a dog of Luna's size. No deaths have been seen in dogs at large doses of 45 mg/lb of body weight. At 0.5 mg/lb sedation is expected; at 5 mg/lb tremors can arise and as the dose increases we might see agitation, aggression, panting, sedation, increased heart rate, drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, and seizures. How much does Luna weigh, please?

90 lbs.

I'm sorry for the delay. 60 mg/90lbs = 0.67 mg/lb - enough for transient sedation to appear but Luna will remain safe. May I have an update on Luna, please?
