I'm sorry to hear of this with Smokie. That tiny drop of blood usually indicates acute prostatitis in the intact male. Less commonly, he's passing a stone or his penis has been traumatized. Castration and an antibiotic that penetrates well into his prostate such as trimethoprim/sulfa or enrofloxacin will be prescribed by his vet. If we don't castrate these dogs, antibiotic therapy is quite protracted and even then, relapses are common.

Please have his vet rectally palpate Smokie's prostate to see if it's painful, inflamed, and/or irregularly shaped. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
