Ask a Dog Vet and Get Answers to Your Dog Veterinary Questions
Thank you for your question. My name is***** I have been a small animal veterinarian for 14 years and I'd like to help with your question.
How much is your dog allowing you to touch the ear? There are defiantly some ear lacerations that will not stop bleeding until you ligate the bleeding vessel with sutures. You would have to take hime to an emergency clinic for this. If he is allowing you to touch the ear then you can try some things at home. I would take some powder... I like cream of tartar if you have it, but baking soda can work too. Sprinkle the powder on the wound then apply steady pressure for 5-10 minutes. Use a gauze or cloth and put the pressure. Hold it steady, don't remove it to check the wound or anything. Keep it in place with pressure for a minimum of 5 minutes then slowly remove it. If it is still bleeding then it likely means that you are going to need to get stitches to stop it.
I hope that helps, but if you have more questions please let me know.
