We have a 12 year old min pin. I know she doesn't have much

Customer Question

we have a 12 year old min pin. I know she doesn't have much longer but we're trying to make her comfortable. She's about 16 lbs. She's diabetic and takes 14 units of Novalin N 2x daily. In addition to this she has pemphigus. She's on prednisone 5 mg once every other day. She's also on asathrioprine 50 mg - 1/4 tab every other day. She also gets fish oil every day and niacinamine every day. She's been coughing a lot lately.
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sorry the dog has that. The Veterinarian will know what to do. What is the dog's name?
Customer: Precious
JA: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Precious?
Customer: She's blind in one eye and the other was removed about 3 years ago.

I'm sorry to hear of this with Precious. She's been lucky to have you. While any age dog can cough from a simple respiratory infection such as infectious tracheobronchitis ("kennel cough"), dogs of Precious's age that are coughing often do so from advanced cardiopulmonary disorders. Congestive heart failure, chronic sterile bronchitis (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/COPD), and neoplasia (cancer) in the chest cavity are important differential diagnoses at this time. Precious needs the attention of her vet once again; this time, X-rays of her chest are essential.
