Ask a Dog Vet and Get Answers to Your Dog Veterinary Questions
If your dog is truly choking, the best thing to do is to take him to an emergency veterinarian right away. This can be life threatening. You can look at his gum color to determine if he is able to breathe at all. If he is pink, then he can breath. If he is blue then he is not able to breathe well and needs immediate veterinary attention You can look in the back of this throat for something that may be caught or "sweep" it as you do with a child that is choking, however be careful not to push anything farther back.
Can you describe further what your dog is doing?
