My dog ate a cherry pit by accident. It dropped on the floor

Customer Question

My dog ate a cherry pit by accident. It dropped on the floor when I was putting it in the trash. She is a small dog . What should I do? Will she be ok?

Annalucia, a cherry pit is small enough to pass through the small intestine of even the smallest Chihuahua. I would "watchful wait" and expect the pit to show up in Goldie's feces within 12 hours. Although unlikely, obstruction of the small intestine is evidenced by persistent vomiting and/or anorexia and should prompt having Goldie X-rayed.
