My Dog had quite a bit of discomfort from a rectal

Customer Question

Hello! My Dog had quite a bit of discomfort from a rectal procedure. My vet told me to give him a whole aspirin every 12 hours. I accidentally gave him acetaminophen 500mg tablets. I gave him one this morning and one this evening. I just realized what I did and looked up tyleno to see it can be toxic. He is a 38 pound dog and seems to be acting normally right now. Do I need to do anything other than stop giving it to him?

You didn't harm him. While I might dose a dog at 7 mg/lb thrice daily (266 mg thrice daily for a 38 lb dog), acetaminophen toxcity doesn't arise until 70 mg/lb (2,660 mg for your dog) is administered. You don't need to do anything. You can continue with aspirin tomorrow morning. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

Thank you so much. I feel very relieved to know that. He is our beloved dog and of course I wouldn't want to hurt him!
