If you're seeing tiny spots of bruising (petichiae) or larger blotches of bruising (ecchymosis) a bleeding dyscrasia should be considered. Thrombocytopenia (decreased blood platelets) should be considered as might occur with idiopathic (unknown cause) thrombocytopenia, tick borne infections, Evan's syndrome (autoimmune hemolytic anemia + thrombocytopenia), or an anticoagulant rodenticide poisoning. Such a finding should prompt having your vet take a look at at your Chihuahua. A complete blood count including a platelet count should be performed.
