My dog is acting very skittish and strange and won't lay

Customer Question

my dog is acting very skittish and strange and won't lay down and doesn't want me to stop petting him but he still can't sit down and he's like jerking his head around back and forth and he has not gotten into anything that I'm aware of it started about 2 hours ago and has progressively getting worse

Jessica, you have described the symptoms of intoxication with an "upper" - a prescription or recreational drug, a bromethalin-containing rodenticide, or a metaldehyde-containing snail bait. If this isn't possible, complex partial seizure needs to be considered although these usually don't worsen but abate in time instead. If he's worsening, it would be prudent to have him attended to by an on-call vet who at the least would sedate him. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
