I have a 68 pound Belgian Malinois used as a narcotic

Customer Question

I have a 68 pound Belgian Malinois used as a narcotic detector dog. We received the dog from the Netherlands about 7 months ago and then he was heart worm negative. I have given him each month 2 ML of .05% Ivermectin solution from JR Enterprise, yet he tested positive for heartworms. What is the safest and quickest way to treat and eradicate the heartworms... There were not adults seen under the microscope.
Thank you, Tony

Tony, there's only one approved manner in which to address adult heartworms. Here's the gospel for you:

0.05% ivermectin contains 0.5 mg/mL of ivermectin. As a heartworm preventative, a 68 lb dog should receive ~ 0.05 mg/lb of ivermectin monthly = 3.4 mg monthly. You were underdosing by giving 1 mg monthly. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
