Our catahoula dog, weighing about 65 lbs just licked some

Customer Question

Our catahoula dog, weighing about 65 lbs just licked some Hi-Yield Thuri ice Concentrate, containing bacillus sub-species, kurstaki strain SA-12 solids, spores and Lepdoptran active toxins (at least 6 million bibale spores per little mg), other ingredient ingredients are inert.

Barbara, according to the MSDS sheet for the Thuricide conentrate "There is no specific antidote if this product in ingested. If a large amount has been ingested and emesis is inadequate, lavage stomach. Treat symptomatically." It doesn't sound as if Luna ingested a large amount and so I would interpret the directions as simply "watchful waiting" and treating any symptoms that arose symptomatically if necessary. Gastrointestinal distress in the form of inappetence, vomiting and/or diarrhea would be the most likely of the symptoms if any arose at all in a large dog such as she. In most cases, I simply fast such a dog and expect remission within 36 hours.

Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

Since this took so long trying to get past all the membership sales, I gave Luna some milk, knowing she could throw it up if necessary. Are you suggesting a 36 hour fast? Now what do I do. Please reply in layman's terms.Thank you.

No, I would feed and water as usual if only to dilute however much Luna ingested. The milk was a good choice as is cream, broths and bouillons as diluting agents. Please continue our conversation if you wish.

Ok, when I saw the word fast in your response, it alarmed me. So, I just need to watch Luna and make sure her digestion is okay? I will try to dilute it more. My husband is taking her on a walk right now. No, not much was ingested.Thank you,
Barbara

Fasting would be prudent if gastrointestinal distress arose. I suspect that Luna will remain unaffected. You're welcome, Barbara.
