Customer Question

We have just brought our dog home after a operation on his stomach, last night he slept well then he started to drool really badly, we were told that pain can cause this. He has pee loads and has had diarrhoea that we were told to expect. He is now laying in the garden drooling and really unwell looking. If he needs pain relief what can we give him

Hello,

If he is laying out in the garden actively hypersalivating, he must go to an ER vet right now.

Although drooling can be seen with pain, in consideration that he just had abdominal surgery, I am far more concern about severe nausea and stomach distress. So, giving him a pain medication is not the answer.

Regardless of what drugs were sent home, I definitely feel that he should be seen by an ER vet tonight. Also, with his incision, he should not be outsid laying in a garden area. Very sorry that Alfie is feeling sick. I don't doubt he might be uncomfortable, but I am more concerned the drooling is indicative of a separate problem.

Hope that information helps
