i gave my dog the bordetlla and spectra 9 vaccine about 3 hrs. ago. she is now panting heavily and anxious. could this be a reaction?

Her behavior certainly could represent a delayed hypersensitivity reaction to vaccines. Supportive evidence for such a reaction might be evidenced by facial swelling and urticaria (hives, wheals). It would be prudent to administer an over the counter antihistamine such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) at a dose of 1-2 mg/lb (maximum dose of 50 mg) repeated in 12 hours if necessary. If you didn't see a positive response or, indeed, she worsened in spite of the antihistamine, an on-call vet can administer a glucocorticosteroid such as prednisolone which should be even more effective than the antihistamine.Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
