I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner, Kathy. Dyspnea (difficulty breathing) is a hallmark for left sided heart failure which should be an important differential diagnosis when a litter mate has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. If he's also tachypneic (increased respiratory rate/greater than 30 breath/minute at rest is worrisome) heart failure becomes even more likely. There are many other possible etiologies for his breathing, moaning, snorting and weak back legs, however. Stanley needs to see his vet at your earliest convenience. Stanley's heart and lungs need to be carefully ausculated (listened to) and X-rayed. If his vet believes that Stanley's hind legs are an orthopedic problem rather than part of a generalized weakness as might occur with heart failure, they can be X-rayed at the same time that his heart and lungs are X-rayed. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
