Customer Question

My dog is in pain, I thought she was constipated, she hadn't pooped in a few days. Gave her some pumpkin, it worked, shes eating, drinking, pooping, but still seems to have abdominal pain. Does she need an emergency visit now? Can I wait till Monday when her vet is open?

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you today. I do apologize that your question was not answered before. Different experts come online at various times; I just came online, read about your wee one’s situation, and wanted to help. I am very sorry to hear about Bailey's situation. Though I do want to note that if she has belly pain despite now passing feces, then we'd want her seen urgently. This could be related to a partial blockage in her gut but we'd also be worried about gut (or other organs) twist, stomach ulcers, compression or circulation reduction of other organs, or a possible mass. Therefore, if she is painful despite your settling her suspect constipation, it would be something we'd not want her to suffer with over the weekend and thus want her seen urgently. Just in case you need a local emergency vet, you can check @ or via Please take care, Dr. B. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you have any other questions, please ask me – I’ll be happy to respond. Please remember to rate my service once you have all the information you need as this is only way I am credited for helping you. Thank you! : )
