Based on the age of the pet I would be suspicious that Chiko may be starting to develop a condition called "Dry Eye". Usually seen in older pets where their tear making glands do not make as many tears as they should. It can cause the eyelids to become stuck together. It is easily diagnosed with a simple test called a Schirmer tear test. If Chiko is making fewer tears then he should be he may need specific eye drops to help him make tears again.Hope this was helpful. Good Luck.
