While infectious tracheobronchitis ("kennel cough") can affect any age dog, I have to be more concerned with advanced cardiopulmonary disorders such as congestive heart failure, chronic sterile bronchitis (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/COPD), and neoplasia (cancer) in the chest of a month-long coughing 14 year old. After almost 44 years of practice I've learned not to dismiss a cough as kennel cough in these dogs and, instead, will X-ray their chest at my earliest convenience. Please consider having Rambo carefully auscultated (listened to) and X-rayed at your earliest convenience. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
