The prognosis really depends on how bad the liver is affected and the response to treatment. If there is fulminant liver failure- high liver enzymes, jaundice, elevated clotting times- those dogs have a pretty guarded prognosis for survival.
If the liver values are only mildly elevated and the clotting times are normal, we can have a good prognosis with IV fluids support, liver protectants (SAMe, milk thistle) and time. Just be warned, it can take weeks to months before the liver enzymes normalize.
I always give these guys a shot, as I've had many pull through with time and supportive care. It could be a long road, though.
