It would be safe but there isn't much indication for erythromycin in a dog's eye. What are you seeing that you're interpreting as an infection? Primary eye infections are uncommon in dogs' eyes. If infection is identified it's usually secondary to a corneal abrasion or ulcer or perhaps inadequate tear production (unlikely at Dexter's age). It's always best to have Dexter's vet check Dexter's eyes promptly. Eyes can "go south" in a hurry and examining them "up close and personal" is essential in order to clarify what's going on.
