Hi there, I'm Dr. Sara. I'm a licensed veterinarian who works exclusively with dogs and cats. I'm sorry to hear that your pup has been drinking a lot. How long has this been going on?

A short term increase in water intake can be related to things like GI upset or having eaten or drank something salty or otherwise unsavory. If this is a longer term issue, then we get concerned for things like diabetes, kidney disease, adrenal imbalances like Cushing's Syndrome, or other metabolic diseases. The way we tell what's going on is by a combination of a physical exam, blood work, and a urine sample analysis. If all of that checks out, then we could also consider a behavioral issue (habit, boredom, obsessive/compulsive issue).

I know that this info is really vague - please let me know if I can provide more information about your specific pet by asking some more questions.

Thanks

~Dr. Sara
