I just found a very tiny looked like rice kernel in my dogs

Customer Question

I just found a very tiny looked like rice kernel in my dogs poop. Might have missed it but it was moving. I looked up types of worms but not one looked anything like this. I always check her poop because we live in a senior RV park with lots of dogs. Hope you can help so I get the right wormer.

Hello, this is Dr. Jess. I am sorry to hear about your problem! Most likely this is a tapeworm segment. These are pretty common in dogs but don't cause major health concerns. A dog usually gets them from fleas, so flea preventative is recommended as well as deworming. Praziquantel is the usual dewormer used, such as this one: http://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/sentry-hc-wormx-plus-flavored-de-wormer-chewables-for-dogs

Here is info on this parasite: http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=562
