Hi this is Dr. Gabby. When did Sammy start to feel ill? Any chance he got into something toxic? Even new food or new treats? Do you have a thermometer or could you get one?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Sammy started to feel ill about four hours ago... I had A thermometer

Have
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Now he's throwing up
Expert:  Dr. Gabby replied 1 year ago.

It would be great if you could take his temperature. Put a little ky jelly or vaseline on the tip of the thermometer. Then insert it into the rectum for three minutes or until it beeps.

Expert:  Dr. Gabby replied 1 year ago.

Ok I read he is throwing up. Any new foods or could he get into anything toxic?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
He had some chicken earlier... I don't see any chemicals or anything out. He won't let me put the Thermometer in his tail
Expert:  Dr. Gabby replied 1 year ago.

Ok, then new plan.

It think he was shaking because he was nauseous. He may also have had a stomach ache.

Maybe the chicken is not sitting well in his gastrointestinal tract.

Pick up his food or water dish.

No water until he has not vomited for 4 hours. Then offer him small sips of water. If he drinks too much at once he will vomit again.

Any suggestions for what I should do or what's wrong with my dog
Expert:  Dr. Gabby replied 1 year ago.

To help settle his stomach you can give him Pepto Bismol or a stomach acid reducer like Pepcid AC or Zantac.

If he is over 50 pounds he can have one tablet of Pepcid AC or Zantac every 12 hours as needed. If he will not take it with a treat you can crush it and mix it with water in a syringe or eye dropper. Pepcid and Zantac are over the counter human stomach acid reducer.

Expert:  Dr. Gabby replied 1 year ago.

You can also give him pepto bismol. 1/3 of a tablet, or 1 teaspoon, per each 10 pounds of dog every 6 hours as needed.

It is fine to give the Pepto Bismol with the Pepcid or Zantac at the same time.

Should I take him to an emergency vet or should I just try to give him some acid meds and see whether or not it passes?
Expert:  Dr. Gabby replied 1 year ago.

I would not feed him any food until the morning. Then offer him small bites of plain cooked chicken and rice. Start with just a bite tomorrow morning. If he keeps it down for an hour he can gradually have more.

If he vomits it up he needs to see a vet.

Other signs he needs to see a vet are:

Blood in the vomit or stool.

Pale gums

Not keeping water down for 12 hours or more

Severe lethargy

Expert:  Dr. Gabby replied 1 year ago.

Try the acid meds.

If he is still shaking 2 hours after that then he needs to see the emergency vet.

But I am hoping he just has an upset stomach and the acid reducing meds will help.

Expert:  Dr. Gabby replied 1 year ago.

Does that help? Do you have any additional questions?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
after he drinks water he throws it back up...he seems a little bit more relaxed he at least lay down
Expert:  Dr. Gabby replied 1 year ago.

Ok, remember to pick up both the food and water dish right now.

Nothing by mouth until he has not vomited for 4 hours.

Then start with small sips of water.

If he drinks now he is going to keep vomiting. So do not let him drink right now so his stomach can rest.

How is he doing now?
