Customer Question

Hi Denise. I have a female, 3 yro Shih Tzu. I only recently got her. I've noticed that she isn't regularly urinating or pooping when I take her outside. I also noticed that she licks her "woo woo" on a regular basis. Could she be ingesting her urine? Can I break her of this?

Heloo this is Dr. Holloway but you can call me Dr. H for short. I hear that your pet isn't using the restroom as frequently as you think she should.

I do have a few quick questions for you concerning her problem.

How many time does she urinate on the day that concerns you?

How many times does she defecate (poo or woo woo)>

Since this morning I've only seen her pee once outside and she has not pooped at all. She has eaten last night and today.

Ok any other symptoms that you've noticed? - Dr. Holloway

Right now it sounds like pretty vague symptoms. Just not pooing is not any concern for me so far. :) - Dr. H

Okay.

Oh there you are!

How long have you had her now? How many days?

Expert:  Drhollowayvet replied 1 year ago.

If the not going potty has gone on for more than 2 days then I would be concerned about dehydration and possible constipation. But if you just got her yesterday and she has not gone potty today. I would look into things that could be deterring her from going?? She could be anxious about her new surroundings? Or she could just not be given enough time to find a good spot go outside.
