Hi this is Dr. Gabby. I would definitely get a thermometer first. Use the human oral kind. Put a little Ky jelly or vaseline on the tip and insert it into the rectum for three minutes or until it beeps.
Dogs naturally run warmer then people. A normal temperature for a dog is 100-102.5 F.
My dogs forehead always feels warm to me because people run at 98.6 F.
If her temperature is above 103.5 F or higher the best way to reduce a fever is a luke warm water bath and a fan.
You can also give dogs aspirin. That is the only over the counter pain medication that can be given to a dog.
5 mg of aspirin, per each pound of dog, every 12 hours as needed.
Give it with a large meal or it can cause gastrointestinal upset.
Does that help?
