Adult cocker spaniel swallowed a tampon whole. What do I do?

Customer Question

Adult cocker spaniel swallowed a tampon whole. What do I do? I've read to try to "induce vomiting" and "Never try to induce vomiting as the tampon may not be able to move up the passage." So, not sure what to do.

Hi,

My name is***** and I am sorry to hear that your dog ate a tampon this evening. I would recommend making him vomit to remove the tampon from his stomach. Otherwise you will be looking at surgical removal of the tampon tomorrow or Monday.

To induce vomiting, give him 2- 3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide by mouth. He should vomit within 5 to 10 minutes.

If this is not successful, you will need to take him to the local animal emergency room so that they can make him vomit to remove the tampon.

Does this help? Do you have any other questions?

He threw up. But the tampon did not come up. Thank you for asking though.
