Ask a Dog Vet and Get Answers to Your Dog Veterinary Questions
Hi, this is Dr. Gabby. Do you think it started with a bad dog bisquit? So she has been vomiting up everything since Thursday? When did she last eat? Is she keeping water down? How much does she weigh?
She has not eaten since Thursday? How much does she weigh?
Ok still wondering if she has not eaten since Thursday. If she has not eaten for days, that is serious. She could have a gastrointestinal infection. She could have something stuck in her gastrointestinal tract. She could also have a metabolic issue such as kidney or liver.
So she really needs to see a vet.
To help settle her stomach, you can give her 2 teaspoons of pepto bismol every 8 hours.
You can also give her 1/4 of a 10 mg Pepcid ac tablet every 12 hours.
Both of those are over the counter human medications.
It is fine to give the pepto bismol and the Pepcid at the same time.
Instead of sugar water you can give her children's pedialyte with a syringe or eye dropper. That will help with dehydration.
See if you can get her to eat a bite of plain cooked chicken and rice. That is easier to digest than dog food. You can use rotisserie chicken and minute rice if you do not want to cook. Give her one bite and wait an hour to see if she can keep it down. If she does then you can give her another bite. If she vomits it up then wait a few hours and try again.
I would definitely get her into the vet first thing in the morning if she is not improved. The emergency clinics are open 24/7 as well.
Does that help? Do you have any additional questions?
