I have a 9yr old border collie and he started to lose coordination and has a bright red right eye. appears to lose his way. what may cause this? and what can I do.

I'm sorry to hear of this with Buddy. Losing coordination (ataxia/"drunken sailor"?) and his way (disorientation) indicates encephalopathy (brain disorder). Both intracranial (within the skull) encephalopathies such as brain tumor in a 9 year old and extracranial (outside the skull) encephalopathies such as a poorly functioning liver that's intoxicating the brain need to be considered. The "bright red eye" has many different etiologies and must be examined directly by Buddy's vet in order to clarify what it represents. It may or may not be related to his other symptoms. Buddy isn't a patient who can be managed at home at this time. Please have him attended to by his vet at your earliest convenience.
