Thank you.

It is possible this is due to many different problems but an allergic reaction is possible and a virus is the second most common problem. Young dogs have weaker immune systems so they can be affected by certain viruses where an older dog may not. What you should do right now is give him 1/2 of a human adult benadryl (diphenhydramine) or 1 teaspoon of the children's diphenhydramine 2x daily for the next 48 hours. You should also pick up some Alaway eye drops (found at any major retail store with a pharmacy section) and put this in his eyes 3x daily. If his eyes start getting worse or he starts having any other symptoms (coughing, vomiting, not eating ect) then he needs to see his vet right away as some of these conditions require prescription medications instead of just over the counter medications. I hope this helps, if not please feel free to ask more questions. Dr. Dan
