Ask a Dog Vet and Get Answers to Your Dog Veterinary Questions
Hello, my name is***** and I have over 20 years of experience as a veterinarian. I understand that you would like to know if it is safe for your pup to eat unsalted, dry roasted peanuts as a treat.
While peanuts are not toxic, and it is good that you are picking dry roasted and unsalted, they are high is fat and difficult to digest. We often see peanuts pass through the gastrointestinal system whole because so many dogs have trouble digesting them. If he ate too many that could lead to an impaction.
So while not harmful per se, there are much better treats for him. If he really enjoys them one or two as a special treat here and there is probably fine, as long as he isn't a fellow that is prone to pancreatitis, which can be triggered by high fat foods.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
I would not give her peanuts or any other high fat food.
It's not worth it to risk pancreatitis.
