why is nobody willing to help me with my question???? the bar above said 10 minutes or less what is the reason I have waited 5 hours
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 1 year ago.

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Your question came in in the very early morning. What do you have at home that you could give Shadow to help him relax?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Benadryl
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 1 year ago.

Thank you. Benadryl can be mildly sedative. I dose it at 1-2 mg/lb but I don't exceed 50 mg at any one dose. The dose can be repeated at 8-12 hour intervals. Please tell me how much Shadow weighs.

50 mg of Benadryl repeated at 8-12 hour intervals should mildly sedate Shadow. Please continue our conversation if you wish.

Will it relax him enough so he will pass comfortably
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 1 year ago.

Perhaps. That would be predicated upon why he's dying. Has his vet diagnosed Shadow with a particular disease?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
His liver has failed he cant get up he is just laying by me
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 1 year ago.

I understand. A housecall vet is an alternative to consider.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Have called them nobody will come
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 1 year ago.

I'm sorry to hear this. Do you happen to have a human narcotic at home such as hydrocodone? a benzodiazepine such as diazepam or alprazolam?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I know where to get some
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 1 year ago.

Let me know what you can find and I should be able to give you a dose I might give to Shadow.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
750 milligram he gave me 31/2 thats all he had
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 1 year ago.

750 mg of which drug, please?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Hydrocodone
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 1 year ago.

Thank you. That pill contains 750 mg of acetaminophen and 7.5 mg of hydrocodone. You shouldn't exceed 750 mg of acetaminophen at his weight and so one of those pills every 8-12 hours is the maximum dose for him. Please continue our conversation if you wish.

How long will it be till he passes
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 1 year ago.

I regret that I can't know how ill he is. Hydrocodone isn't likely to euthanize a pet even if seriously ill. It should, however, sedate and provide pain relief.

He is jaundice panting alot
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 1 year ago.

I would need to know much more than that to prognosticate for you but, of course, his jaundice and panting aren't positive prognostic signs.
