Ask a Dog Vet and Get Answers to Your Dog Health Questions
Hello. Thanks for writing in. My name is***** and I would be happy to help. Most likely, you won't see any serious issues with this. At most, I would expect to see some vomiting or diarrhea. But it should only be 1-2 episodes of vomiting and diarrhea for no more than 36 hours. She would have eaten about 1 ounce of milk chocolate. With a dog her size, 5 ounces is where I would start getting concerned. If you want to play it on the safe side and eliminate all concerns, you can induce vomiting with 1 tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide given orally. This is the larger spoon. That dose can be repeated in 10 minutes if no vomiting has occurred. If she vomits up a lot of chocolate, I would just monitor her. If she notice any further vomiting, bloody stools, abdominal pain, increased agitation or anxiety, hyperactivity, fast heart rate (over 150 beats per minute) or tremors; I would have her evaluated immediately. I would be very surprised if you see any of those issues, though. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Hope this helps.
