I picked my dog up from day care and was told he had vomited

Customer Question

I picked my dog up from day care and was told he had vomited several times during the day. They didn't call me. He did vomit on the way home and it's slimy in consistency and a little pinkish in color. What might be causing this?

Hi, I can help you with your question today. Vomiting can be caused by a large number of problems ranging from eating something unusual (human food, garbage) or foreign body ingestion to gastroenteritis.

How is he behaving?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Right now, he's listless

How long ago did he vomit in the car?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
about 30 minutes ago...on the way home from the day care. He was perfectly fine this morning when I dropped him off

Do you think there is any chance that he had the opportunity to chew up a toy, get into the garbage, or eat a food that he doesn't usually get?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
its a wide open area and to my knowledge they only provide water during the day

he's so depleted now, he's not even wanting to stand. He's barely wagging his tail when I speak to him

We do not commonly see contagious GI viruses, but did they mention if anyone else had been ill?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No they didn't. I'm shocked they didn't notify me earlier
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I did ask if his stools looked odd, but they say they hadn't noticed anything and no one in the kennel area reported anything

Wow, OK. I highly recommend you get him to an emergency hospital now. I would start with a physical exam, blood work, and x-ray of his abdomen. I'm worried about metabolic diseases like Addisons and physical conditions like bloat and GDV.

Expert:  brisadog replied 1 year ago.

Since he is already recumbent, I do not think it is a good idea to try to manage his condition at home. This could be very serious.

But I can't afford Emergency care...it's $100 just to have the visit.. I just called two of them....Does it sound life threatening??
Expert:  brisadog replied 1 year ago.

I can't say with certainty, but it's possible.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
OK...I'll have to figure it out when I get there
Expert:  brisadog replied 1 year ago.

Hopefully it won't be that serious, but I think we are risking serious consequences if he isn't seen tonight.

I forgot to close this out...
